Endometriosis and Physio: Managing the Pain Puzzle

Endometriosis is a complex, systemic inflammatory disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows elsewhere in the body. It takes an average of 7-10 years to get a diagnosis, and by that time, many women are exhausted by chronic pain.

While physiotherapy cannot "cure" endometriosis or remove the lesions (that requires excision surgery), it plays a massive role in managing the pain and improving your daily life.

The "Endo Belly" and Muscle Guarding

When you live in chronic pain, your body tries to protect you. Your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles instinctively clench and "guard" the painful area. Over years, this guarding becomes a habit, leading to:

  • Secondary Pain: The lesions cause the initial pain, but the tight, spasming muscles cause more pain (back pain, hip pain, painful sex).

  • Visceral Immobility: Inflammation can cause organs to stick together (adhesions). A uterus or bladder that can't slide and glide freely causes deep, pulling pain.

  • "Endo Belly": Severe bloating often exacerbated by lymphatic congestion and abdominal gripping.

Our Role in Your Endo Team

At Milton Physio Plus, we work alongside your doctors to break the pain cycle.

  • Visceral Manipulation: Gentle manual therapy to mobilize the fascia around your organs, improving blood flow and reducing that "stuck" feeling.

  • Down-Training the Nervous System: Techniques to tell your brain it is safe to relax the muscles, reducing the intensity of flare-ups.

  • Cycle Planning: Creating a plan for high-pain days versus low-pain days so you don't lose momentum.

You are not imagining the pain. It is real, and while we wait for a cure, we are here to help you reclaim your body. Visit Milton Physio Plus to schedule an assessment!
